Police said one man hit a tree and another hit a vehicle that was pulling out of a driveway.
OAKLAND — One man died and another suffered critical head injuries in separate vehicle crashes about 9 1/2 hours apart, police said.
The fatality happened about 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Lake Park Avenue, near the Grand Lake Theatre. According to police, the man crashed a vehicle he was driving into a tree. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.The earlier crash happened about 6:25 p.m. Tuesday in the 8200 block of Baldwin Street in East Oakland, near Hegenberger Road and involved a motorcycle, police said.
The motorcyclist was speeding while traveling east on Baldwin Street, passing lanes in the opposite lane of traffic, police said. He then collided with a vehicle that had just exited a driveway and wound up on the pavement after being thrown from the motorcycle, police said.
