The Kingston parents, 34 and 22 years old, have been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm and possession of a Schedule I substance and were released on conditions.

Kingston Fire and Rescue provided medical attention to the infant, who was then provided additional treatment by Frontenac Paramedics and was swiftly transported to Kingston General Hospital. Once at the hospital, it was discovered the opioid overdose had caused the infant’s illness.

Hospital staff administered multiple shots of Narcan, the release said, which was able to reverse the effects of the overdose and ultimately save the infant’s life.Article content Further investigation by police of the parent’s residence revealed various narcotics, including fentanyl, that were left in areas easily accessible to the infant.

The parents, 34 and 22 years old, were subsequently arrested and later released on conditions with a future court date. They were charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm and possession of a Schedule I substance. “Kingston Police wish to recognize members of Kingston Fire and Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics and Kingston Health Science Centre emergency care providers for their co-ordinated life-saving measures, which led to this infant’s survival,” the statement said.
