Opinion: At the Indian Fine Arts Academy, I teach classical vocal music with two goals in mind [Opinion]
— not by notating the composition as the nuances in the art form go well beyond any form of notation. Continuing that tradition required more than just me teaching music once or twice a week. It required a whole ecosystem that supports significant music listening, appreciation, interactions with well-known musicians and opportunities to perform.Indian Fine Arts Academy San Diego
and this has not only supported the student population here but also hundreds of performing artists from all over the world. The Indian performing arts festival organized by the Indian Fine Arts Academy every spring is the second largest such festival in the world outside India. San Diego is a vibrant city for performing arts due in large part to the Indian Fine Arts Academy, and I have the unique privilege of serving as a trustee in this esteemed organization. The cultural memories created by both, learning and listening to performances, are truly priceless and have positively influenced hundreds of students in the area.
The great Greek philosopher Plato said, “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything.” Those immersed in any form of music would totally appreciate this. I feel so fortunate to have this opportunity to immerse myself in music.
