A bold state program known as CARE Court — which makes it easier for authorities to compel seriously mentally ill individuals to get treatment — launches Monday

It never gets easier watching someone you love suffer living on the streets, or visiting them behind bars while they’re still in the throes of the condition that got them there. I am grateful that San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria has been a champion for better behavioral health care for his constituents, along with Gov. Gavin Newsom, the Legislature and the counties that are stepping up and implementing CARE first, like San Diego.
