“Tomlinson: Fact-checking the GOP’s false claims about wind power as Texans worry about broken grid

,” : As a retired engineer who spent over 35 years in the electric utility industry, I read Chris Tomlinson’s commentary on the state of energy in Texas with some interest. While much of what he says is rooted in sound knowledge, I find it curious that he restricts many of his points concerning “lies” to the Republican Party in his opening paragraphs and the headline.

The fact is that both Texas and the United States need all sources of energy applied with a long-term objective of a sound energy policy that provides strategic, tactical and economic security. The problem thus far is that each party has pushed an agenda that has been focused on convincing the public that energy policy must be an all-or-nothing endeavor and that their side has the only correct approach. The exact opposite is required for the nation.

Carbon dioxide is released by burning forests to create animal pastures. Methane and nitrous oxide are released from digestive tracts of cows and sheep and from animal waste pits.

In an environmentally sustainable world, vegetables, fruits and grains must replace animal food products in our diet, just as wind, solar and other renewable energy sources replace fossil fuels. The next trip to our favorite supermarket provides a great opportunity to explore the delicious, healthful, eco-friendly plant-based meat and ice cream products in the frozen food section.
