Opinion: Vote for those who will act to end gun violence [Opinion]
Donald Trump and the Republican Party are fanning the surge in violent crime across America. Their political mantra of guns and grievance scorns civility while promoting a culture of lawlessness among their angry, entitled supporters.
The resulting carnage is extensive, ranging from physical assaults on flight attendants, death threats against election workers, and a deadly insurrection that nearly succeeded in hijacking a sacred American tradition: the peaceful transfer of presidential power. This horrifying brand of American thuggery is the hallmark of the Republican Party in the age of Donald Trump. Americans should be revolted but not surprised: It was candidate Donald Trump who once boasted: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”
