Here's some context behind Breed's trip.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom walks with San Francisco Mayor London Breed on Geary Street to a news conference outside Tommy's Mexican Restaurant on June 3, 2021, in San Francisco.that she has embarked on a 10-day tour of Europe"to support bringing international travel back to San Francisco."

According to her office, she will tour London, Brussels, Frankfurt and Paris and"meet with airlines, airports, and local leaders to both continue and expand partnerships to reestablish San Francisco International Airport as the international gateway to California and a hub for European markets, and to bring tourists back to San Francisco."

The trip will be paid for by SFO, which is owned and operated by San Francisco but does not receive city funds. For residents confused by the timing, purpose and political implications of the trip, here's some context.
