LONDON - Opponents of a third runway at London’s Heathrow are set to hear on Thursday whether their legal appeal against the government’s decision to expand Europe’s biggest airport has been successful.
Last May, a High Court judge said he did not accept the arguments made by environmentalists and did not believe the government’s transport minister had acted unlawfully when he approved the expansion of Europe’s busiest airport. The Court of Appeal is due to deliver its verdict on Thursday. Any party can then seek permission to appeal that ruling to the Supreme Court, the highest court in Britain.
“Parliament has voted in principle to support a third runway at Heathrow but it is a private sector project,” a spokesman for Johnson said.
