Residents in two South Jersey towns are pushing back on plans for new warehouse complexes, one proposed and one already approved, both in residential areas.last month after a crowd of more than 100 residents turned out for a planning board hearing on a 1.6 million square-foot warehouse complex on a former farm. The meeting has been rescheduled for February as officials continue a search for a larger venue.
“It’s the beginning of the end,” said Veronica Bills, a high school teacher from Pilesgrove who lives near the proposed warehouse complex on Auburn Road in this 35 square-mile township of nearly 4,000 residents, 30 miles south of Camden. “It can happen anywhere. This is just going to be a nightmare.”
It includes 1.6 million square feet of warehouse space in three buildings, including one that will be 990,000 square-feet. The project also calls for 760 parking spaces, 248 trailer parking spaces and 162 loading docks over 150 acres.
