Aging is complex, but a recent study takes a big step toward understanding the inter-organ aging network and predicting chronic disease & mortality. Read the News and Views from Michael Snyder & mahdi_moqri SnyderShot harvardmed StanfordMed

present a study that represents a monumental effort to tackle aspects of these three challenges in understanding biological aging. This study is the first, to our knowledge, to provide a comprehensive characterization of aging across several organ systems in a large population.

The authors present a whole-body characterization of aging, using cross-sectional and longitudinal imaging and physiological data from the UK Biobank. The study explores different ways that humans age across several organ systems and how this affects the risk of chronic diseases and mortality.
