Orland Park is ready to tap resources such as property tax revenue to defend itself in anticipated lawsuits as it pushes back against a sweeping criminal justice reform law, Mayor Keith Pekau said Tuesday.
Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau gave a state of the village address May 25, 2021, at the village's Civic Center.
One person asked if village residents could band together and establish a separate fund to defend the village against anticipated lawsuits. Pekau said the village already collects property taxes that could be used for such defense. Pekau indicated Orland Park would, to the extent possible, flout some of rules attached to the SAFE-T Act and brace itself for anticipated litigation.
