TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE | SkyFOX is over the scene of the eastbound side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, where a tanker truck overturned near marker 337 in Fort Washington several hours ago. Drivers trapped in the traffic are being turned around. MORE: fox29

Hazmat crews responded to the crash after an unknown liquid leaked onto the highway. Drivers on I-276 in Whitemarsh Township are experiencing a traffic delay after a tanker overturned.

A long line of cars stretched back as emergency responders worked to clear the road. Officials said in a Wednesday night update that it will be hours until the highway is reopened. To alleviate the massive traffic backup, the Pennsylvania Turnpike said road crews are u-turning vehicles starting from the I-476/I-276 junction. They have also opened access gates and removed the center barrier at milepost 336 to funnel more motorists westbound.
