The Chicken Coop restaurant is flying the coop months after its founder was sentenced to federal prison for not paying his business taxes., the Wilkes-Barre restaurant announced it will close on the night of Super Bowl Sunday. The Coop will shut down the fryers and turn out the lights for good at 9 p.m. on Jan. 13 after decades in business.
The announcement comes just months after Coop founder and owner John T. Stuchkus, 60, of Pittston, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for failing to pay federal income and payroll taxes for the business. Stuchkus, who was ordered to pay the government nearly $400,000, is jailed at the United States Penitentiary at Canaan in Wayne County, the Citizens Voice writes.
But his son, Scott Stuchkus, told the newspaper his father’s legal woes didn’t play a role in the ultimate decision to close.
