'Prudent' for Manny Machado to miss a second game with tennis elbow
The second day off means Ha-seong Kim is at third base and in the two-hole for the second straight day. Jurickson Profar will lead off, Eric Hosmer is in the three-hole, Luke Voit will bat clean-up and Jake Croneworth will play shortstop and bat fifth.With Kim at third and Cronenworth at shortstop, Robinson Cano will make his seventh start since singing with the Padres.Wil Myers is also out of the lineup, giving way to Jose Azocar in right field.Azocar is hitting .229/.296/.
The Padres are 1-1 thus far in games in which Machado is on the bench to start the game, beating the Braves on May 15 in extra innings and stranding a season-high 16 batters in Saturday’s loss.Before the game, the Pirates placed outfielder Ben Gamel, who robbed Hosmer of a home run on Saturday, on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. Infielder Hoy Park was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take his spot on the roster.
