Padres' Yu Darvish, Mets' Max Scherzer meeting in rematch of Game 1 of last year's wild-card series

For one, Grisham is hitting .243, nearly 60 points above where his average sat at the end of the regular season. He’s also tied for the team lead with three homers, albeit three solo shots, and most important has an on-base percentage above .330.

The blast, however, is the only one that Grisham has in 22 career plate appearances against Scherzer. Machado andlead current Padres with three homers off Mad Max, but only Machado is in Monday’s lineup as Cruz is giving way toat DH despite hitting .412/.429/.765 in 35 plate appearances against the Mets’ 38-year-old right-hander.

Carpenter’s numbers aren’t nearly as robust but the Padres have begun the year using Carpenter against righties and Cruz against lefties. It’s a formula that’s worked well as, after Cruz’s six-RBI game on Sunday, the Padres’ DHs lead the majors with 15 RBIs and are third in the majors with a 1.095 OPS.
