Berkeley baker expands outside the East Bay

Berkeley’s Emily Winston kept her word on expanding outside the East Bay. Her highly anticipated Boichik Bagels has finally launched its first Peninsula enterprise, at Town & Country Village in Palo Alto, and customers were quick to line up for these boiled, New York-style bagels.

Winston told the East Bay Times in the fall of 2021 about her plans to open more Bay Area bagel shops following the lease of a massive North Berkeley bagel warehouse where production could be increased. “People tell us they drive an hour from Palo Alto and San Jose for bagels, so the Peninsula is definitely a priority,” she said at the time.

Look for the same menu of eats, including 15 types of bagels, from plain and salt to onion and “pumperthingel,” plus seven house-made schmears, such as lox, chive and Hatch chile. Boichik also sells smoked salmon and house-made whitefish salad.
