Palomar will take on Santa Ana in a winner-take-all Game 3 after the teams split the first two weekend matchups
Palomar College will have its baseball season on the line on Sunday, when the Comets host defending state champion Santa Ana College in the third and deciding game of their best-of-three series in the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Finals. Santa Ana remained alive with a 5-4 victory Saturday after Palomar won Game 1 on Friday, 11-7.
Palomar got a home run from sophomore Ian Halverson to lead off the ninth, but their comeback ultimately fell shorts. The Comets proceeded to load the basses when three batters were hit by pitches, and Palomar scored on a bases-loaded walk to sophomore designated hitter Ryan Rivera to close the deficit to one run. A groundout to shortstop ended the contest and forced Sunday’s Game 3. Halverson and sophomore third baseman Luke Matthews had two hits apiece for the Comets.
