The excitement is at a fever pitch right now at Pasadena-First Baptist Christian...
These three captains on Pasadena-First Baptist Christian Academy's varsity football team will be in Waco Thursday afternoon trying to bring home a state title. From L-R, Travis Gray, Noah Gasque and Aiden Martinez are proud members of the nation's No. 22 ranked six-man squad. The Pasadena-First Baptist Christian Academy varsity football team competed in their first fourth quarter of the season this past Friday night and the results were spectacular.
"We're really blessed to have the opportunity to make it there. Our coaches prepared us for a four-quarter game because Coach Larsen has been telling us we're going to have a game that goes four quarters. I'm glad we had a four-quarter game before state because you gotta be really good to be at state. That really prepared us for four quarters," said Travis Gray, one of FBCA's three captains on the team.
But a strong Conroe Covenant squad, wanting to avenge a 64-16 district loss to the Warriors in late October, hung around just long enough to create that fourth quarter. Mother Nature even tried to give Conroe Covenant a helping hand by causing an hour-long lightning delay in the first half. Larsen sensed the Warriors were physically taking charge, but the retreat off the field gave the Conroe school time to catch their breath and regroup.
"We run the ball so it's like ground-N-pound. Coach always tells us body blows will take tolls on people. That's how we rack up all those points," Gasque said.
