Pat Quinn, left, turns in a proposal on March 27, 2024, to Peter Polacek, managing editor council journal for Office Of City Clerk, for a Chicago ordinance calling for a November voter referendum question on whether any state or local taxpayer money should be spent to build a new stadium for the Chicago Bears or White Sox. Former Gov.
Both teams face headwinds. Gov. J.B. Pritzker has said he generally opposes subsidizing private companies beyond helping with general infrastructure costs, and state Senate President Don Harmonon a single bill. The referendum question would ask voters: “Shall the people of Chicago provide any taxpayer subsidies to the Chicago Bears or Chicago White Sox in order to build a new stadium or real estate development?” Mayor Richard M. Daley looks at a model of a redesign plan for Soldier Field on Nov. 14, 2000. Daley helped usher along taxpayer help for the renovation.
