Murphy's first collaboration with Nolan comes in 2005's Batman Begins. The actor originally, in fact, auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne, but Nolan felt that he wasn't quite right as the Caped Crusader, instead casting him as Scarecrow. Nolan was evidently impressed and intrigued by Murphy as an actor and, in addition to bringing him back as Scarecrow in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, cast him in Inception and Dunkirk as well.
