Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave credit to the House Jan. 6 Committee after Trump's arraignment on Thursday for charges brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

"The courageous Members of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack knew the evidence and they knew the law," Pelosi said in a tweet. The 45th president pleaded not guilty to charges related to his alleged role in the Capitol riot during his arraignment proceedings in federal court in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
Other Democrats weighed in after Trump's court appearance, including the ranking member on the House Rules Committee, Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., who said,""It certainly doesn't shield Trump from liability for engaging in an illegal conspiracy to throw out the lawful election results just because he didn't like them," he said.
