House SpeakerPelosi's office denies she wants to be next US ambassador to Italy
Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill took aim at Bartiromo for reporting the rumor, asserting that she had not discussed the matter with anyone in the administration.“The Speaker has no interest in this position and has not discussed it with anyone in the White House. This is the second time Maria Bartiromo has proceeded with reporting anonymous rumors about the Speaker’s future that have no merit,” he said in a statement.
Bartiromo’s report alleged that President Joe Biden is holding the position, which would require Senate confirmation, open for the speaker should she opt to leave Congress.While talk of Pelosi’s next moves has begun to swirl in Washington, the California Democrat asserted in January that she was running for reelection.
Speculation previously emerged that Pelosi was vying to be U.S. ambassador to the Vatican last year, which Pelosi’s office also said was not accurate. Biden ultimately tapped former Sen. Joe Donnelly for that role.
