Toms River North's initial victory in the 4x100 Northeast was overturned in a controversial finish.
The 4x100-meter relay Northeast final at the 2024 Penn Relays ended in controversy at Franklin Field, as what looked like a Toms River North victory was reversed by meet officials.
Heading into the fourth leg of the relay, Toms River North , Rancocas Valley , and Coatsville were the three teams leading the pack, with Toms River North holding a slight lead over the two teams. Following the final handoff, Toms River North’s anchor leg immediately drifted from lane eight to lane seven, moving directly in front of Rancocas Valley anchor leg Julian Coppage-Seepersand. This prevented Coppage-Seepersand from making a move to try to pass him without colliding with him or crossing over into another lane. The TRN athlete finished the race in first place, with Coatsville and Rancocas Valley right behind them.
