The competition itself is a classical ride, with tough qualifying rules. During the preliminary rounds, there are 160 participants, which drops to around 90, then 45, and only 12 of the best pianists make it to the final. The film synopsis reads: Offering a rare behind-the-scenes look backstage at the triumphant highs and crushing lows of competition, filmmaker Jakub Piatek captures the intense pressure these musicians face in an experience that combines tears of exhaustion and despair with the ecstatic joy of playing.
