America250PA plans to plant a certified liberty tree in each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.
A piece of American history is now in Franklin County.A liberty tree was planted at Chambers Fort Park in Chambersburg on Tuesday afternoon.During the American Revolution, the 'Sons of Liberty' gathered under history trees throughout the colonies called liberty trees.
The last known liberty tree was destroyed in 1999, but a local landscaper revived parts of the tree and now they're finding their way across the nation. 'We look at these opportunities for planting these trees as ways to recognize the 250th for the next 50 to 100 years for folks to understand how historic these types of plantings and these trees are,' says Cassandra Coleman, executive director of America250PA.
