Pilot killed in Cullman County plane crash Friday afternoon

The pilot, who was from Cullman County, was the sole occupant of the aircraft, which crashed in a field by County Road 1488 near Vinemont.

Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the fatality victim as William Scott Smith. He was 54 and lived in Vinemont. Kilpatrick said the crash happened at 11:36 a.m. in a field near a landing strip and that the strip was not the pilot’s destination.
