The pilot of a small plane was seriously injured in a small-plane crash on a street near the Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose Friday night.
The single-engine Piper PA-32 went down at about 7:15 p.m. while departing from nearby Reid-Hillview Airport, authorities said.
San Jose police said the pilot had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital but there was no immediate word on his condition.The San Jose police department posted on Twitter that officers were"at the scene of a small aircraft aviation accident in the area of Ocala Avenue and Karl Street" close to the airport.
Police said several homes in the neighborhood were evacuated because of downed power lines. Pacific Gas & Electric crews were sent to restore power. UPDATE: Solo occupant of plane transported to the hospital with moderate to severe injuries. No evacuations have been issued. Affected residents asked to shelter in place due to downed power lines.
