Paris Hilton, The Chainsmokers, and Alphabet's venture arm just backed a fintech helping Gen-Z shoppers get the best deals online. Here's the pitch deck it used to raise the $15 million Series A.
The startup scrapes users' emails for discounts and promotions, applying them at the point of sale.When it comes to finding deals online, it's about quality over quantity for most shoppers.
"Our entry point into helping streamline the whole shopping experience is savings," Dixon told Insider. For instance, if a user purchases makeup every three months, Checkmate will push promotions for a makeup store when the customer is likely ready to buy again. In this way, Checkmate simultaneously builds customer loyalty for the brands it supports.
However, Apple also released iOS extensions, which allow third-party developers, like Checkmate, to extend functionality beyond its app and onto another platform, like Safari. The startup also caught the eye of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart of The Chainsmokers, who have a venture fund called Mantis. Pall introduced Checkmate to other potential celebrity investors, including Paris Hilton, who participated in the Series A.
Privacy and security are top of mind for Checkmate, Garton-Smith said. On the tech front, the fintech uses encrypted software that is audited annually by Google.
