After a disappointing freshman baseball season at USD, left-hander Kyle Carr admitted he needed a reset.Monday, Carr was chosen in the third round of the MLB Draft by the New York Yankees. The slot bonus for Carr’s spot in the draft is $692,000.Six rounds after Carr was taken, Palomar College teammate slugging outfielder Quincy Scott was taken by the Texas Rangers in the ninth round.
“I’ve played corner infield, and third base is probably the spot I’m most comfortable with,” said Sim, a Torrey Pines High School graduate who led USD this season with 13 home runs. “I’m excited to get started. Whatever I can do to get the ball rolling and develop my game, one step at a time, that’s what I’m focused on.”With a fastball that sits at 95 mph and touches 97, Carr was 12-1 with a 2.341 ERA at Palomar. In 78 innings, he had 111 strikeouts, walked 19 and gave up just 53 hits.
“Palomar was really good for me,” Carr said. “The coaches were great, allowed me to do my own thing, work on the things I needed to work on.Carr had Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in 2020, broke his right hand in 2022 and suffered a torn right labrum at the start of this season.
