Back on Oct. 12, 1895, the farm of George Thomas hosted the first plowing match in Big Rock, which over more than a century has morphed into a three-day festival.

Secretary of the Big Rock Plowing Match Association Denise Farrugia said despite the event including a myriad of activities, “the plowing is why we have the event. The plowing is central to the entire event.”

“Learning the skills to do it isn’t that hard,” Glawe insisted. “You take your time – a couple of days on a tractor – you could learn.” Preceding that was a rededication of the lights on Kenny Field, the baseball field which 56 years ago was built in honor of former resident Kenny Raymond.
