Dozens gather Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in East San Antonio to protest the death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis police officers.Gray skies provided the backdrop to a Saturday evening protest decrying the beating death of Tyre Nichols.
Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black motorist, died three days after a group of police officers kicked him in the head, pepper-sprayed him and repeatedly struck him with a baton while he lay on the ground, even though he showed no signs of fighting back.The five officers involved, who are also Black, have been fired and charged with murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression.
