Anchorage police say an officer shot and killed a man who was holding a rifle early Sunday on a Glenn Highway off-ramp.
Anchorage police blocked the Glenn Highway’s northbound offramp at South Birchwood on Sunday, July 2, 2023 after an officer responding to a shots-fired call shot and killed an armed man.
“The suspect advanced on the officers while holding the rifle; one officer fired his weapon, hitting the suspect at least one time in the upper body,” said the statement. Police said medics treated the man at the scene. Officers also recovered a handgun from him. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died soon afterward. Neither of the officers involved was injured.
Police said it was not known whether the man was actually involved in the original report of shots fired early Sunday.
