Baytown police discover bodies in oil field; connect discovery to spree shooter
A Baytown man who was fatally shot by police last week after he allegedly killed two men and injured two women might have slain two more people before the spree shooting, according to the Baytown Police Department., the police department said a man on Sunday discovered two bodies in an oil filed near Causeway Road and Evergreen in Baytown. The department believes Ron Welch, 33, is connected to the new discovery.
Welch was shot and killed by Baytown police on Oct. 5, after he allegedly shot two people who were in an SUV on Tri City Beach Road and another two people at a nearby trailer park. Two men died in the shootings. Two women were injured but survived. Police haven't revealed a motive for the shootings, but said some of the victims were believed to be his neighbors at the trailer park.Welch was killed while he was driving back toward the scene of the SUV shooting, police said.
Police haven't revealed the names of the shooting victims in the original incident. The bodies discovered on Sunday haven't been identified, police said. It's unclear how police connected Sunday's discovery in the oil field with Welch or if those bodies were connected in any way to the other victims. The oil field described by police is more than 3 miles west of the scene of Tri City Beach Road shootings.
