A resident of unincorporated Antioch doing yard work Thursday morning discovered an item believed to be a WWII-era anti-tank rocket, officials said. Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 25000 block of West 3rd Street for a report of a suspicious item found by a resident. The person found something with sharp edges sticking out of the ground, and decided to dig it up, according to a sheriff’s news release.Officials said the object resembles a WWII-era anti-tank rocket, and it was unknown how long the item was buried in the ground.
It also was unclear if the object is inert or if it could explode, so the Waukegan bomb squad was on the scene to determine how to dispose of the object safely.
