Eleven of the Padres' top-30 prospects are currently playing with Double-A San Antonio, on a playoff push

“Having guys that come through your system, I think it’s really important to the culture that you have on the team,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said. “Anytime we can bring somebody up from the system — and the same thing with coaching, too — I think it’s really important to having continuity within the organization, because you embrace being a Padre.”
Eleven of the organization’s top-30 prospects, as ranked by MLB.com, have jumped to the Missions this year, headlined by 17-year-old Ethan Salas’ aggressive promotion earlier this month after just nine games at high Single-A Fort Wayne. Salas, who has a ceiling as high as any prospect in the game, is working with Double-A pitchers as the Missions prepare for a September postseason run.
