Don Bolduc, the Republican candidate for New Hampshire's Senate seat, was the target of an intended assault Wednesday night as he entered the venue for his final debate against incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan (D), according to his campaign.
A man"took a swipe" at Bolduc as he mingled with the crowd outside the New Hampshire Institute of Politics on the Saint Anselm College campus, according to senior campaign adviser Rick Wiley. The gathering included his supporters, Hassan's supporters, and a group of anti-war activists, who started heckling Bolduc.The anti-war activists started calling Bolduc “a war criminal,” Wiley told the Washington Examiner. “They were calling him a war criminal.
Bolduc is a retired Army general who served 10 tours in Afghanistan and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He has tightened the polling gap between himself and Hassan, with recent polls showing him within striking distance of flipping the seat.
