Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud ran for a career-high 79 yards in the Buckeyes' 21-7 win at Northwestern on Saturday.

But Stroud instead kept the ball and took off running toward open grass. The decision faked out the front so much that Rod Heard II, a safety who was lined up along the edge of the line of scrimmage, lunged to bring Williams to the ground. He ran for a career-high 79 yards, a rushing total that surpassed his 76 yards through the air against the Wildcats.
Two of Stroud’s six carries came as he scrambled, but he otherwise took off on called read-options, picking up on cues from defenders in the box. When Stroud handed off to Williams on a third down in the third quarter, Heard stayed along the edge.
