WalletHub released its 2020 list of the best and worst states for women in the U.S.:
This year, Massachusetts topped the list as the best state for women in America.
"There are several factors that contributed to Massachusetts being at the top of the list, including one of the lowest unemployment rates for women, high job security, and the low share of women living in poverty,” says Gonzalez. In addition, more than 90% of women in Massachusetts were able to afford a doctor visit in the past year. The state has an almost 91% high school graduation rate for women, among the highest in the country. But Massachusetts' strongest suite is healthcare. “It has high quality women's hospitals, more than 85% of women have a personal doctor and the female uninsured rate is the smallest nationwide,” says Gonzalez.
In addition, Louisiana's share of women with good health is one of the lowest in the country, as is the percentage of physically active women. “As a direct consequence, the state has a large share of women who are obese, as well as low life expectancy for women,” says Gonzalez. “In terms of safety, the female homicide rate is one of the highest nationwide."
