Reagan baseball coach Chans Chapman speaks to his team after the Rattlers defeated Eagle Pass 8-7 in a one-game Region IV-6A semifinal playoff on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Veterans Field in Laredo.LAREDO — With the prospect of having its season end playing one of its worst games, Reagan mustered four two-out runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally to an 8-7 victory over Eagle Pass in a one-game Class 6A regional semifinal Thursday night at Veterans Field.
Reagan had to make a huge adjustment early when starting catcher Andrew Ermis, the Rattlers’ leading home run hitter with eight, was ejected in the first inning when he collided with Eagles first baseman Derek Ruiz on a grounder to third. Umpires determined Ermis was too aggressive on the play.The Rattlers lost the lead twice and the game appeared like it got away in the top of the fifth when the Eagles scored five runs on four hits to take a 7-4 lead.
“Caden is a great teammate,” Baehr said. “That throw out was a huge, huge boost for our team, and it really helped us get out of that inning.”
