The relative of the Cleveland baby boy who faced charges in the 2023 death of a baby boy in Cleveland will avoid jail time after pleading guilty to charges, according to Cuyahoga County court records.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - A grand jury in July of 2023 voted to indict 21-year-old Diamond Caldwell and 23-year-old Deondre Hairston on charges of murder, felonious assault, endangering children, tampering with evidence and obstructing justice in the July 4 death of the duo’s 27-day-old baby.
Hairston’s cousin, 18-year-old Michael Berry, faced the same charges; however, he pleaded guilty on March 7, 2024 to obstructing justice. The court dropped the other charges. Berry faces two years of probation, according to court records, where he must complete a cognitive behavior change program and be monitored until the conclusion of the case. He also is not permitted to speak to Caldwell or Hairston.
