U.S. soldier killed in Korean War identified among remains turned over after Trump-Kim summit
According to the DPAA, the remains of over 450 Americans killed in the war have been identified and returned to families for burial “with full military honors” since 1982. This is in addition to the approximately 2,000 Americans whose remains were identified in the years immediately following the end of hostilities.are “still unaccounted-for from the Korean War, hundreds of whom are believed to be in a ‘non-recoverable’ category,” it said.
Identification is challenging as “cases from Korea represent highly commingled human remains involving thousands of missing persons from varied proveniences,” to the ongoing government-backed Korean War Identification Project, which works with historians, scientists and families in the hope of identifying more slain soldiers.
