The program returns to Dallas after nearly three years. A spokesperson for Lime outlined the emphasis on safety concerns this time around.

“We’d be honored to once again serve the city of Dallas and, keeping in mind some of the comments, work together with the city to help create the kind of infrastructure that would help micromobility thrive safely,” the company tweeted.

Bird, along with Lime and Superpedestrian, will offer at least 500 devices and eventually increase that number through complaint statistics and meeting benchmarks for ridership. The soft launch on May 24 deployed 1350 scooters, 100 seated scooters, 45 e-bikes and 5 assisted scooters. Those interested in renting one of the devices can do so between the hours of 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.Those 16 years old and younger cannot rent scooters or e-bikes.

“We’ve worked with the city to design a program that addresses the concerns of the previous pilot, like street clutter and tidiness, and we understand the key is getting it right, so we’re happy to be patient,” Lime's Dallas operations coordinator Kelly Pierce said in a statement. “This time around, riders, pedestrians and everyone else can expect a more organized and tidy program that all of Dallas can enjoy, and we’re thrilled to be deploying 500 e-scooters today.

To promote fair riding opportunities, each company will be required to put 15% of its devices in what the city deems as “equal opportunity zones” while having no more than 25% in high-activity neighborhoods. Bird offers free rides to health care workers and for emergencies, and incentives like a 50% discount to low-income riders, Pell Grant recipients, veterans, senior citizens and select local nonprofit and community organizations through its community pricing program.

“We’re excited to make an impact on climate and traffic in one of the country’s fastest growing cities,” Bird CEO Shane Torchiana said in a statement. “Dallas joins a global community of more than 350 cities who have chosen Bird to offer a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly way to explore their area, and we wish Dallas residents and visitors alike happy riding.
