Alan McKenna, del Centro Loch Ness, dijo que se trata de “inspirar a una nueva generación de entusiastas del lago Ness”.
El Centro Loch Ness tiene su sede en el antiguo Hotel Drumnadrochit, donde nació la leyenda. En 1933, el gerente Aldie Mackay dijo haber visto una “bestia acuática” en el loch rodeado de montañas, el lago de agua dulce más grande del Reino Unido en cuanto a volumen y uno de los más profundos, con 230 metros .
La historia generó una fascinación mundial con el monstruo esquivo, con engaños y cientos de versiones de testigos oculares. Entre las numerosas teorías están la de un reptil marino prehistórico, una anguila gigante, un esturión e incluso un elefante que huyó de un circo. Muchos creen que se los avistamientos son falsos o bien se trata de troncos de árboles que flotan o de aguas agitadas por los fuertes vientos, pero la leyenda es una bendición para el turismo en la pintoresca región de las Highlands de Escocia.“Creo que hay algo en el loch”, dijo, aunque mantiene la mente abierta acerca de qué podría ser. “Creo que tiene que haber algo que alimenta tantas conjeturas”.
