Japan has no backup plan if the Olympic Games get derailed by the coronavirus by lisettevoytko

Hong, FileFriday that Japan has no alternative plans for this summer’s Olympic Games, should they possibly get derailed by the ongoing coronavirus outbreak⁠—even though officials are taking measures to slow the spread of the disease, and are considering shortening the iconic torch relay.

“There will not be one bit of change in holding the Games as planned,” Katsura Enyo, deputy director for Tokyo’s Olympics preparation bureau,Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, backed up Enyo’s comment, saying the organization is “fully committed” to holding the Games on schedule.that the Olympic torch relay⁠—an iconic leadup to the start of the Games⁠—could be scaled back to limit spreading the disease.

Friday’s reports come after Japanese officials pushed back on Tuesday comments from another IOC member, Dick Pound, who suggested the Games
