At first, the Union-Tribune was seen as the culprit. Then the weather service. Neither are to blame.
Chula Vista has experienced a lot of big temperature swings and significant rainfall since the beginning of the year. But you wouldn’t know it by reading some of the weather stories I’ve written for the Union-Tribune.This angered a lot of Chula Vistians, many who sent me heat-seeking emails. One guy said, “Admit it, Gary, you hate Chula Vista.”Actually, I love San Diego County’s second-largest city. Other forces were at work.
I get my weather data from the weather service, which has included Chula Vista in its daily roundup for decades. But sometime back in February, the numbers began to periodically drop out of the list. I thought it was a simple, short-term glitch. When things got worse, I contacted the weather service, which attributed the problem to technical issues suffered by their “observer” in Chula Vista. That observer turned out to the the city’s Fire Department, which owns and operates a weather station that’s supposed to feed the weather service data around the clock. So I emailed Chula Vista and asked for an explanation.
“We’ve made several attempts to resolve the issue, working with NWS and our IT Department. It appears that the issue is not a software issue but likely a hardware issue and we need to replace the entire unit. We are exhausting all options before committing to the purchase of a new unit.

Blinken also repeated his call for Russia to immediately release Gershkovich. He made the comments on Wednesday at NATO headquarters following two days of talks among the alliance's foreign ministers. Russia accuses Gershkovich of espionage, a claim Americans deny.
