Republican presidential candidates Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie both mentioned Hunter Biden, the president’s legally embattled son, during the debate.

DeSantis was the first to bring him up, hitting Hunter Biden on making thousands from selling paintings and tying that into the state of the economy under President Joe Biden.“If you are working hard and you can't afford groceries, a car, or a new home while Hunter Biden can make hundreds of thousands of dollars on lousy paintings, that is wrong,” DeSantis said.

Christie was next to bring him up, citing his plea deal with prosecutors that would have seen him avoid jail time. The plea deal has since fallen through. He invoked the president’s son after a question about guns, saying Hunter Biden, who under the plea deal was charged with illegally owning a gun, got off easy with no jail time while his father calls for stricter gun laws.“In a Christie administration, he would go to jail for 10 years," he added.
