Si alguna vez hubo una historia inspiradora sobre cómo alcanzar las estrellas, es “A Million Miles Away”, el viaje de la vida real de cómo un niño que creció siendo trabajador agrícola migrante se convirtió en astronauta de la NASA.
Comienza en los campos de maíz de Michoacán, México, mientras José Hernández mira maravillado hacia el cielo, y termina dos horas más tarde con él a 200 millas sobre la Tierra en la Estación Espacial Internacional.
Todos se sacrifican para que Hernández eventualmente se convierta en un especialista de misión espacial: Sus padres dejan de mudarse de campo en campo y pierden su hogar, su esposa retrasa sus sueños de abrir un restaurante y el propio Hernández se pierde el nacimiento de un hijo y pasa horas interminables preparándose. Como ingeniero, lo confunden con un conserje en su primer día en el Laboratorio Nacional Lawrence Livermore.
La mexicana Alejandra Márquez Abella dirige con seguridad y hay algunos toques realmente elegantes, como cuando una caja de papeles se disuelve para convertirse en una caja de cultivos o cuando la cámara captura a Hernández de niño en el auto familiar y luego lo muestra adulto en otro auto.
