Restaurateur Dan Deagan is planning to open Wine Dive this July in the space formerly occupied by El Carcinero. The Lakewood bar will be a new concept for Deagan who owns and operates Lakewood and Beachwood truck parks, Humble Wine Bar and Dive Bar Cleveland.
LAKEWOOD, Ohio --Restaurateur Dan Deagan is planning to open Wine Dive this July in the space formerly occupied by El Carcinero. The Lakewood bar will be a new concept for Deagan who owns and operates. He anticipates a quick turnaround on the new restaurant because space was so clean when he got the keys. Changes, he says, will be aesthetic, not structural.
The reason for the concept is personal, something he and his girlfriend thought about two years ago after discovering a dive bar they liked in Austin. The timing and location are finally right in Cleveland.“My girlfriend and I love going to dive bars, the s******* the better. She likes drinking wine. I like drinking beer, but sometimes I like a good old-fashioned with a big ice cube,’ Deagan says. “You can’t usually get those at a dive bar.
So, he’s creating his own space. Wine Dive, 16918 Detroit Ave, Lakewood, is not meant to be gimmicky, but to be truly a low-end wine bar. It will have “normal” wine list, he notes projecting 50 wines, with 20 or so by the glass. “We’ll have some really good wines, too,” he says. “You can get a bottle of Caymus or Silver Oak. We’ll have a bottle of Dom if you want Champagne.”
