Retail spending fell in March, as American consumers pulled back on purchases of vehicles, furniture, appliances and gasoline amid rising interest rates

Purchases at stores, restaurants and online declined a seasonally adjusted 1% in March from the prior month, the Commerce Department said Friday. Sales were revised in February to a milder 0.2% decline from a previous estimate of down 0.4%.
