He expanded the core orchestra, hired excellent new musicians and did ambitious programming.
Performances became reliably well executed, if rarely revelatory. Toward the end of his tenure, though, the Peruvian-born, American-trained conductor revealed new subtleties and elegance. Harth-Bedoya then left to head university orchestral programs, first at the University of Nebraska, then at Baylor. On Friday night, as music director laureate, he returned to lead the FWSO in three dramatic works composed in the last three decades of the 19th century. The interpretations, at Bass Performance Hall, had personality aplenty.
